Trio & Triptych
11 July, 2022

A contemporary look at Flemish heritage

The Brussels Opera Theatre celebrates 11 July with a somewhat unusual, but extremely captivating concert featuring the trio Itzel Devos and Victorina Eeckeloo, vocals, and Emmy Wils at the piano.

We highlight the dialogue between Flemish poets who wrote in Dutch, such as Hedwig Speliers and Hugo Claus, and that other group who published in other languages.

Inspired by the style of the Flemish Primitives and the atmosphere of the songs, painter Anselm Eeckeloo is currently creating a new retable. This work will be shown to the public for the first time during the concert.

Of course, the programme also includes Flemish songs by Dirk Brossé, Frans Geysen and Frédéric Devreese, among others. "Vannacht" (Night), once composed for the Eurovision Song Contest, but then rejected, is also on the programme. Daniel Sternefeld is also present with his beautiful harmonisations of real, authentic Flemish folk songs, such as "Ik zag Cecilia komen". You will be coming too, won't you?
